Whole You Nutrition
Whole You Nutrition,
Founded by Amber Hanson
Amber Hanson, founder of Whole You Nutrition, is helping women step off the exhausting roller coaster of diet culture and into a more peaceful, empowered relationship with food. As a Licensed Nutritionist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Amber serves people who are tired of battling their bodies. “Most of my clients identify as women who were taught from a young age to be smaller, quieter, and more compliant,” she shares. “Through a weight inclusive, anti diet lens, we unlearn those harmful expectations and replace them with pleasure, flavor, and permission.”
Her philosophy is both simple and radical: “The world needs changing and we cannot do that if we are always hungry or worrying about the size of our thighs.”
Turning Personal Struggle into Purpose
Amber did not arrive at this work by chance. “I spent years looking for the secret to a smaller body,” she says. “I even became a nutritionist to try to find the answers.” What she found instead was a broken system. “I realized my weight was not the problem. The problem was a relationship with food and my body that had been hijacked by unrealistic social norms.” In 2018, Amber founded Whole You Nutrition to offer the weight inclusive support she once desperately needed. “I wanted to create a space where health is measured by how we care for ourselves and how we feel, rather than what we weigh.”
Challenging the Industry Narrative
One of Amber’s biggest challenges as a business owner has been showing up fully as herself in an industry that often equates thinness with expertise. “My biggest challenge? Existing as a fat nutritionist in a field that ties credibility to body size,” she says candidly. “I am swimming upstream against a multi billion dollar industry that tells women their worth is a number on the scale.”
Her response has been to trust her own lived experience. “I know what it is like to cycle through diets and feel like a failure. And now I know it was never my fault.” That realization became the foundation of her business. “I overcame the diet industry’s messaging by trusting my intuition, and now I help other women reclaim that same power.”
A Unique Blend of Expertise
While an anti diet approach already sets Whole You Nutrition apart, Amber brings another layer of experience to her work. Before becoming a nutritionist, she was a chef and food product developer and continues to do freelance recipe development. “I have a deep knowledge of food beyond its nutritional value,” she explains. “That makes me uniquely qualified to help people find joy in eating again.” For Amber, nourishment includes flavor, satisfaction, and creativity. Food is not just fuel. It is pleasure and connection.
Milestones That Reflect Her Values
Amber is especially proud of becoming an in network provider for BCBS and UHC, expanding access to weight inclusive care. “Making this work financially accessible is incredibly important to me,” she says. She also recently launched free community Wellness Walks at Silverwood Park. “So many of my clients struggle with isolation, stress, and rigid ideas about exercise. The walks are about connection, nature, and moving your body in a way that feels good.”
Another achievement she celebrates is the Meal Planning Collective, a virtual community and co working space designed to make daily food decisions easier and more enjoyable. “It is about mastering the day to day flow of food with less stress and more fun.”
Advice for Women Considering Entrepreneurship
Amber’s advice to women thinking about starting a business is both enthusiastic and realistic. “Do it. But know that it will likely be the hardest thing you have ever done.” She started Whole You Nutrition after realizing her experience was undervalued in the traditional job market. “Beyond recognizing your own worth, starting a business means you get to do things your way,” she says. “It would be nearly impossible for me to work for someone else and still fiercely uphold my weight inclusive, anti diet approach.” Even on tough days, she feels grounded in her decision. “I feel good knowing that I am living my values.”
